Malvern College

Malvern College is the traditional school of the future: a leading co-educational boarding and day school that maintains the finest traditions while constantly looking forward. We aim to develop well-rounded, balanced individuals who will achieve personal fulfillment at university, at work and in society at large.

We focus on academic excellence, personal growth, achievement in all fields and pastoral care in order to create the perfect environment in which to encourage the growth of confidence and creativity in our pupils.

Founded in 1865, Malvern is set in a beautiful 250-acre campus; a safe place in which we are able to offer an outstanding all-round education for pupils aged 13 to 18. We have recently made significant investments in state-of-the-art sports facilities and have also opened two new superbly equipped boarding houses. The boarding houses have extensive en-suite facilities and the new Sports Complex includes a 25m swimming pool, an eight-court sports hall, a shooting range, squash courts, dance studio, multi-purpose fitness suite and a Hospitality Suite. The Sports Complex has been designed to accommodate the needs of the school and that of Worcester County Cricket Club, which uses the facility for its winter training. In addition we offer a wide range of co-curricular activities from canoeing and mountain biking to Tae kwon do and scuba-diving. The famous Malvern Hills provide marvellously challenging terrain for our cross-country runners and mountain bikers.

The Downs, Malvern College Preparatory School, for pupils from 2 to 13, is located on a delightful 50-acre site nearby. Here there has also been significant investment in enhanced facilities this year with the addition of a brand new sports hall, ‘Astro’ hockey pitch, tennis and netball courts. Emphasis is on the outdoor curriculum, enabling young pupils to make the most of the wonderful country campus. The Downs offers outstanding, flexible, family-style boarding and runs a helpful transport network for local day children. The unique narrow-gauge steam railway, which has existed here for 80 years, still delights the young student engineers who are invited to maintain it as part of the range of hobbies offered.

At the Senior School, in the Sixth Form, we offer the choice between A levels and the International Baccalaureate. Our results speak for themselves; we have an impressive track record of pupils going on to top universities in the UK and abroad.

Creativity and cultural pursuits are enthusiastically supported in an environment which develops and encourages talent. The large Music School, distinctive Theatre, and well equipped Arts Centre produce passion and professionalism that help many pupils go on to achieve acclaim in their chosen field.

As a proper boarding school, we provide a full programme of activities on Saturdays and Sundays both academic and social. We have a strong house system which is central to all we do and this is where pupils learn to take responsibility for others and where they often make the friends which they keep for the rest of their lives. We eat in our individual houses and this brings houses together several times a day making it possible for good pastoral links to be made and maintained. We encourage dialogue with parents and work with you to provide the best possible educational experience for your children.

Stimulated and challenged by the “Malvern experience”, pupils more frequently exceed expectations than match them. The focus on individual achievement is counterbalanced by an encouragement of teamwork and a spirit of co-operation and service to others. Please come and visit us and see for yourself. We would be delighted to meet you.
