We believe we are a leading school because…………..
Portland Place School offers a fresh attitude to the education of
boys and girls from a wide range of backgrounds and natural ability.
Our approach can be summed up as ‘modern traditionalism’.
Discipline is firm, but compassionate. Our uniform is simple and
functional. Teaching is structured. The relationship between
teachers and pupils is courteously informal.
We teach in small classes to offer every child individual attention.
And, while we always strive for academic excellence, we never
allow this to overshadow our dedication to nurturing natural
intelligence or true potential.
Each child’s progress is followed through tests, homework and six
reports a year. Parents are also encouraged to meet our staff to
discuss any concerns at any time, as well as at a Parents' Evening
every term.
We are also a school in touch with the real world. The future
of the children in our care comes first in all our decisions. And
the education every child receives is a journey to a successful
later life.
Founded in 1996, Portland Place School is part of the Alpha Plus Education Group, the name behind some of Britain’s finest schools and colleges since 1931. The school has 360 pupils on roll from ages 10 to 18.
The school is accredited by the Independent Schools Council. And the Headmaster is a member of the Independent Schools Association (ISA) and the Society of Heads of Independent Schools (SHMIS).
We benefit from a campus-style layout on three sites: two adjacent 18th century James Adam houses in Portland Place, three Victorian buildings in Great Portland Street and a contemporary building used mainly by the Upper School and Sixth Form.
This diversity means that our pupils enjoy many stimulating environments, from the fine architecture of Portland Place to the modern Art & Drama studios and science laboratories in Great Portland Street.
The school boasts a well-stocked library, school-wide broadband internet access and state of the art computers with the latest applications.
You can visit the school at our monthly open mornings. Or simply make an appointment to see the school and Headmaster at any time. Full details are on our web site (www.portland-place.co.uk).
