St. George's School, Ascot

We are a leading school because

We provide excellent academic and pastoral care in a safe and secure environment, where our girls feel comfortable, happy and well-equipped to focus on their individual strengths and abilities. Our unique boarding system allows the best of both worlds for the modern family; enabling our girls to experience the enrichment of boarding life, whilst maintaining regular quality time with their families.

St George’s is a girls’ independent boarding and day school with approximately 300 girls aged from 11 to 18 years. The school is set in 30 acres of beautiful grounds with a magnificent view over woodland. We are just a stone’s throw from Windsor Great Park and Ascot racecourse, yet less than 30 miles from London, with easy access to the M3 and M4 motorways.

At St George’s we are extremely proud of the special blend of excellence in academic and pastoral development that we offer our girls. We encourage each girl, whether a boarder or day pupil, to take advantage of every opportunity she has to learn and explore new challenges and experiences. Her happiness and moral and spiritual welfare are of paramount importance and we believe that by providing a safe and secure environment, in which she feels comfortable and happy, we enable her to focus on her strengths and abilities and to discover where her passions lie.

Our small class sizes ensure that every girl is given the right balance of academic challenge and support by our inspirational teaching staff, who deliver a wide-ranging and varied curriculum. Girls are given opportunities to excel not only in traditional subjects but also in Art, Drama, Music and Sport.

Academic results at St George’s are strong, with high proportions of the girls going on to Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities. The AQA Baccalaureate and Extended Project qualifications are offered in addition to A-levels, where typically one third of the candidates achieve three or more A grades.

At the heart of our ethos is the relationship between our dedicated staff and each individual pupil. Each girl is allocated to her own individual Tutor, who is responsible for her academic progress, discipline and pastoral care. Our boarders live in year groups with a resident housemistress, who works closely with the Tutor to ensure a consistent approach to supporting the progress and well-being of each girl. We operate a House system, which provides opportunities for entertainment and healthy competition and encourages the girls to make friends across the age groups.

Boarders benefit from special weekend packages of activities and also enjoy the opportunity to go home for several weekends each term, an arrangement very popular with families who want to spend as much quality time together as possible, whilst still providing their daughters with the many benefits that boarding offers. Day girls can board on an occasional basis, by arrangement and are able to join many of the weekend outings and extra-curricular activities on offer.

We give each girl increasing independence and freedom, but also introduce a sense of responsibility as she progresses through the school, so that at the end of Sixth Form she is equipped and ready to face the challenges that university life will bring.

Girls leave St George’s not only with excellent qualifications, but self-confidence, fond memories of their school days and lasting friendships.

Entry is by Common Entrance at 11+ and 13+ Entrants to the Sixth Form must achieve a minimum of six GCSE passes at Grades A*-C, and at least a Grade B in any subject to be studied at A Level. A wide range of scholarships are available at 11+, 13+ and 16+.
