Ravenstone Preparatory School and Nursery

We believe we are a leading school because, whilst holding traditional values and hoping that our children will be hard working, kind and content, we also know that they must be prepared for a wider and rapidly-changing world: one with a diversity of cultures, languages, beliefs and priorities. By virtue of our location, the rich blend of our families and the dedication of staff, pupils at Ravenstone quickly learn that far from creating barriers to respect and friendship, diversity encourages the open-mindedness and harmony necessary for both individuals and communities to thrive in the modern world.

Ravenstone Prep School and Ravenstone Day Nursery occupy two separate and very different sites: the Prep is housed in an elegant Victorian building in an excellent location in the heart of South Kensington; the Day Nursery is situated in a an unexpectedly large garden in W2, just north of Hyde Park. The Prep School takes children aged 2 to 11 years and the Day Nursery takes children from 10 months to 5 years. Both schools offer extended days, holiday clubs and year-round care. The schools have traditional values and our staff expect high standards of both work and behaviour, with kindness and consideration for others being of paramount importance. At the same time, the schools are well resourced with modern equipment and the children are safe, secure and exceptionally well cared for. Both schools are small, cosy, friendly establishments where no individual becomes lost in the crowd. Delicious healthy lunches are prepared by our own cooks who cater for all dietary needs.

The Prep School curriculum consists of all the customary subjects plus our own additions: French from Reception upwards and Mandarin from Form 3. We more than compensate for our limited outside space with an extensive PE curriculum including swimming and tennis all year round from Reception and games afternoons at Battersea Park from Form 2. The children participate in regular trips to the nearby museums and Hyde Park or to places of interest further afield. We offer a wide range of after school activities including karate, drama, yoga, creative dance, computer club and Arabic. The children may also take ballet classes as an optional extra.

The Day Nursery in W2 is a paradise for Early Years children with its wonderful garden and vast sandpit. Whatever the weather, the children have a huge array of resources to exercise their minds and bodies, and the freedom to investigate and experiment under the watchful eyes of our well-qualified and highly experienced staff. Children who attend the Day Nursery are guaranteed places at the Prep School and can opt to travel between the sites by school minibus if they wish.

There is excellent provision at both schools for children who do not have English as their first language. Fluent French speakers may also participate in the CNED – Centre National d’Enseignement à Distance – scheme under the tutelage of specialist teachers.
